Birthday Waffles are here to make mornings festive and fun! Imagine fluffy, golden waffles stacked high, topped with all the sweet goodies you love like sprinkles, whipped cream, maybe even a drizzle of syrup or chocolate, and don't forget the cherry on top! It's like a party on your plate that anyone can celebrate, any day of the year.

I made my daughter these birthday waffles for her 5th birthday and she absolutely loved them! They are such a fun and tasty way to start the morning, especially if you're the birthday boy or girl.

I made my own waffle batter using flour, sugar, milk, eggs, vanilla, salt and baking power. It's a simple waffle batter that works for me and my family that can be turned into hundreds of different variations!
I used the long sprinkles inside the batter and the round sprinkles on top. You can use one or both if you have.
Instructions:

- Step 1: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt.

- Step 2: In a separate bowl, beat the eggs, add the milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Mix well until fully combined.

- Step 3: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Gently fold in the sprinkles, reserving some for the topping.

- Step 4: Lightly grease the waffle iron with cooking spray or brush with melted butter. Pour about a ¼ cup of batter into the preheated waffle iron and cook until the waffle iron tells you it's ready!

Top with lots of whipped cream instead of syrup for a special birthday cake look and more sprinkles of course.
Make sure to stack 3-4 waffles into a “cake” and add candles for presentation! (A cherry is a bonus!)
Drizzle with chocolate or caramel sauce for extra indulgence. Or if you are serving multiple kiddos, prep toppings in bowls so everyone can decorate their own.
Substitutions:
Flour Use cake flour for a lighter texture or gluten-free flour blend for a GF option.
Sugar Swap with honey, maple syrup, or coconut sugar for a different sweetness.
Butter Use vegetable oil, coconut oil, or even applesauce for a lighter twist.
Milk Any dairy-free milk (almond, oat, soy) works great.
Sprinkles Try mini chocolate chips, crushed cookies, or nuts.
Whipped cream topping → Use yogurt, dairy-free whipped topping, or sweetened cream cheese frosting.
Variations:
Chocolate Birthday Waffles Add cocoa powder to the batter and top with chocolate whipped cream and sprinkles.
Strawberry Shortcake Waffles Layer waffles with sliced strawberries and sweet whipped cream, then sprinkle with crushed vanilla cookies.
Birthday Cake Waffles Use Funfetti cake mix as the base and frost with cream cheese icing instead of syrup.
Ice Cream Sandwich Waffles Cool waffles completely, sandwich ice cream between two, then roll edges in sprinkles.
Cinnamon Roll Waffles Use canned cinnamon roll dough in the waffle maker and drizzle with icing.

Storage:
Room Temperature – Keep plain waffles (no whipped cream or toppings) in an airtight container for up to 1 day.
Refrigerator – Store in a sealed container or zip-top bag for up to 3 days; reheat in a toaster or oven to crisp them back up.
Freezer – Lay waffles in a single layer on a baking sheet, freeze until solid, then transfer to a freezer bag for up to 2 months.
Reheating Tip – Skip the microwave (it makes waffles soggy); use a toaster, toaster oven, or 350°F oven for best results.
Tips for making the birthday waffles before the party day!
1–2 Days Before:
- Mix and measure all your dry ingredients, store in an airtight container.
- Chop fruit or prep any special toppings (keep refrigerated).
- Make sauces or flavored whipped creams ahead and store in the fridge.
Day Before:
- Cook the waffles, cool completely on a wire rack, then store in the fridge or freeze (see storage tips).
- Set out serving plates, utensils, and decorations so you’re not scrambling.
Party Day:
- Reheat waffles in the oven or toaster for that fresh, crispy texture.
- Arrange a toppings bar with sprinkles, syrups, fruit, whipped cream, and candles for a festive touch.
- Stack waffles into a “cake” or serve individually—light candles and let the celebration begin!

FAQ'S:
Will the sprinkles melt or bleed in the batter?
Most standard “jimmies” or confetti sprinkles hold their shape well, but mix them in gently and right before cooking to prevent color bleed.
Can I make these waffles gluten-free or dairy-free?
Absolutely—use a gluten-free flour blend and dairy-free milk/butter. They’ll still turn out delicious and festive.
What’s the best way to keep waffles warm for a party?
Place cooked waffles on a wire rack in a 200°F oven until serving time—this keeps them warm and crispy without getting soggy.

Birthday Waffles
Equipment
- waffle iron I use the larger square one but a smaller one works too
- cooling rack This keeps the waffles warm and crisp while making the rest of the waffles.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- 2 tablespoon sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 ⅓ cups whole milk
- ½ cup unsalted butter melted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- sprinkles
- toppings of your choice
Instructions
- Preheat the waffle iron.
- Mix the dry ingredients together. (2 cups of flour, 2 tablespoon of sugar, 1 tablespoon of baking powder, and ½ teaspoon salt.
- Mix the wet ingredients together. (Beat the 2 eggs, and add 1¾ cups of milk, ½ cup of unsalted butter,(melted and mostly cooled) and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract.) Mix well until combined.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Stir until just combined. A few lumps are ok. Gently fold in the sprinkles reserving some for the topping.
- Lightly grease the waffle iron with cooking spray or brush with melted butter. Pout about a ½ cup of batter(depending on the size of your waffle iron) close the lid and cook until golden and crispy or the ready light comes on.
- Carefully remove the waffles from the waffle iron and serve them warm and top with your favorite toppings.
